A parent coach can help you become the parent you want to be.

Here are some answers to my most frequently asked questions.  Don’t see the answer you were looking for?  Please email me!

Q: “Why do I need a parenting coach?”

A: Parenting is hard!

Parents today are busier than ever.  There are too many books and too many methods.  Philosophies have changed since our parents were raising us.  Who has time to figure it out?

A parenting coach can:

  • help you identify pressing issues and pinpoint areas of conflict in your family
  • support you as you work to create change in your relationship with your child
  • provide tailor-made solutions to shift away from struggle and into ease with your children.

Q: “What are your qualifications?”

A: I am a certified API parent educator and I am currently training with Dr. Laura Markham to become a certified Aha! Parenting Coach.

I have a B.A. from the University of Vermont, and I was trained as an elementary school teacher at the University of Toronto.  I have over 20 years of experience working with children and their families in school and daycare settings.  I am a mother of 3- my kids are presently 9, 12, and 15.  After they were born, I turned my Type-A brain toward learning everything I could about parenting, attachment, positive discipline and child development.  I have always been ‘that mom’- the one who the other moms talked to about problems or issues they were having with their children.  It was a natural progression for me to turn my interests and abilities into a career.  I love helping parents and kids create the best relationship possible.

Q: “What is the difference between coaching and counselling?”

A: Coaching is a relationship between equals.

I am your guide and mentor, not your doctor.  Our relationship is more personal- as I support you  and offer feedback I can share stories and insights from my own experience if that is helpful.

A: Coaching is intended for people who are psychologically healthy.

If you are experiencing medical or psychological dysfunction, suffering from emotional trauma or in a crisis situation where family members are in danger coaching is not the solution for you.

A: Coaching is solution- and strategy-oriented.

We work toward practical solutions to make your relationship with your children and family life the best it can be.

Q: “How does it work?”

A: We customize parent coaching to your needs.

We will define and set your goals, and develop a strategy to reach them.  I will support you through this process.  We will conduct our coaching sessions via phone, FaceTime or Skype, with an option for email support.

The first step is a short phone call- a totally free Less Conflict, More Connection strategy session. (click here to apply!)  We will identify your most pressing issues, figure out what you’re looking for and see if we will be a good match for each other.
